A year ago I wrote “9 Things That Makes You A “Wannabe” Problogger“. I guess you are all very excited to see what has happened since then. These are the bullets I think are a vital part of every problogger.

<Satire on>

Use a Mac, usually a MacBook Pro, iMac or MacBook Air

Keen interest in photography, usually a Canon Digital Rebel XTi or Nikon D40 or similar. Darren Rowse, Matt Mullenweg or Lisa Bettany. They all take great pictures and have a lot of followers on flickr

Adobe Photoshop skills. The photographs must be edited in someway. Also great for making graphics for your blog posts

Attend a convention. I always envy the bloggers that attend a blogger convention. SXSW is just one of the conventions I would love to participate in. There is so much going on there

Speak at a convention.Jennifer Laycock, Guy Kawasaki, Lorelle VanFossen and Andy Beal travel the roads and sky thin speaking at conventions.

Have a cool nickname. Robert Scoble is the Scobleizer and Jeremy Schoemaker is Shoemoney. Just to mention a few. I’m sure there are plenty of others out there too

Vlog, podcast, lifecast or stream either your life or a daily/weekly show. Justin Kan from justin.tv, Sarah Meyers from Pop17.com, Justine Ezarik from iJustine and Chris Pirillo from LockerGnome all have a show or lifecast (sometimes both). Use services such as Revver, Qik, Ustream, Mogulus or YouTube

Say smart, useful and thoughtful things on twitter or pownce

Be a part of a Web 2.0 startup

To keep the post short, please read 9 Things That Makes You A “Wannabe” Problogger to see my answers one year ago.

And how does it look anno 2009:

Yes…I’ve bought a MacBook Pro. Best computer I’ve ever had. It’s fast, stable and overall just great. I would recommend anyone to buy one.

Still got the Nikon D40. I’ve upgraded it with a Nikon 55-200 mm lens and a Nikon SB-600 Flash. My wife is quickly becoming the pro-photographer.

I’m still a Photoshop novice.

SXSW is right around the corner and I (want) would still love to attend it. Unfortunately I haven’t been to a single blogger convention yet. There really aren’t any in Denmark.

I’ve spoken at seminars and other work-related events, but never at a blogging convention. I still want to do that.

I’m still stuck with “dennisbp” as username. I can live with that though. I still use “Dennis Bjørn Petersen” too. So unless something really interesting comes up, I stick to it.

I still dream of podcasting or vlogging. I’ll get to that. It doesn’t define a problogger, so it’s not on top of my list. It could help me become one though…

Pownce is dead, long live Twitter. Remember to follow me on Twitter. I say smart things!

That’s a negative. I haven’t done anything to be a part of a Web 2.0 startup, so that’s ok.

So to sum up. My biggest wish is still to attend SXSW or a similar blogger conference. What’s your ambition? Do you plan on becoming a problogger too?

I’ve had this post in my head for quite some time. I’m not sure if it will work, but I have to get it out of my head. I tried stabbing my brain with Q-tips, but it doesn’t help anymore.

Statement: Blogging is just like a massively multi player online game, it could be World of Warcraft, Everquest 2, Eve Online or one of the many other MMOs out there.

That’s quite a bold statement some might say. Oh yeah? Allow me to explain.

I’ve played MMORPGs since Ultima Online back in 1997, I gave Everquest one a go after that, but Everquest 2 is where I’ve spent a lot of my time.

I co-founded one of the oldest guilds on the Highkeep server, it was called The Arcane Order. I was a guild leader for several years until I retired over a year ago.

With my MMO experience backing me up, I can safely make this comparison. Blogging is like playing a MMO.

I’ll start out with the Multiplayer Online part:

On every MMO server there are celebrities ie. the coolest guild, players with the best gear, the guilds that beat the toughest raids, the best crafter and so forth.

When one of these celebrity players say something in the global chat channel, everybody chimes in. Answer their questions, laugh at their jokes or join their groups.

The biggest player celebrities also have most followers. What you say in the chat is often true and people tend to follow what they say and talk about it.

The celebs are often also among the wealthiest people on the server.

They are often among the first to reach the highest level, complete difficult quests and try out new things.

They work really hard and spent most of their time in the game improving their skills.

They keep their friend’s list updated all the time, they network and form guilds. However most guilds doesn’t accept anyone. If you play a fighter and they need a wizard, you have to be damn good fighter to be invited.

Both husband and wife plays the game.

From time to time a player may get a little too cocky and get a warning from a gamemaster.

Now I think you can see what I’m getting at, but to make sure let me explain with a corresponding number of points.

In the blogosphere there are celebrities each in their own domain. The blogging experts, the coding experts, the monetizing experts and so forth.

When one of these experts or celebrities say something on their blog it creates a wave through a lot other blogs. The global chat channel can be their blog or twitter. They can ask any question on twitter and get at least 50 different answers.

If Robert Scoble decides that he prefers Kyte instead of Qik, then Qik might as well just sell their servers to Kyte. If Michael Arrington (TechCrunch) doesn’t like a new start-up, thats not a good start.

Shoemoney’s Adsense cheque picture made him famous, Darren Rowse makes a living out of blogging too and with the referral money he earns every day I’m sure he lives ok. Same goes for John Chow.

You’ll often see A-list blogger first movers on new services and applications. FriendFeed couldn’t have made it without the attention from Louis Gray.

You don’t become a pro-blogger over night. It takes a lot of work, research and not just the right gear.

What would the blogsphere be without networks? Andy Beal’s Marketing Pilgrim, Mashable, b5-media, Gawker and many more. Aren’t they really a guild? You just can’t join them, you have to be invited and only if your blog meets the requirements.

Both husband and wife blogs, sometimes on the same blog.

The blogosphere doesn’t have any gamemaster or moderator (thank you for that), but it has some great people, who reminds it not to get too serious all the time. Loren Feldman is one of them. His satiric movies can really make your day.

Now there is one significant thing that sets the blogsphere apart from World of Warcraft or Everquest 2. On World of Warcraft the celebrity player can be a 13-year old kid, who has too much time on his hands and a big ego.

I haven’t seen many 13-year old kids making a living out of blogging…

So is my comparison too far fetched? Did I forget anything?

Thank you very much to Mostly Lisa for letting me borrow the photo.

In my quest to make a living of blogging I’ve now turned my attention to my equipment a.k.a my gadgets.

If you didn’t already know that, well I’m working on it. Hopefully in a couple of years I can quit my day job and make a living out of blogging. I think I would be the first Dane to do that.

I’ve compiled a list of gadgets, equipment, skills and programs that I need in order to match the stereotypical blogger. From my interview series I’ve learned that most bloggers have

So what kind of stereotypical blogger thing am I doing?

I’ve been a pc-guy for many years, but I’ve decided that my next laptop will be a MacBook. (If you have any recommendations then please let me know)

I just bought my own Nikon D40. It’s a great camera and a huge upgrade from my old Olympus point and click. The only followers on flickr I have are my parents. I guess the average The Beta News visitor isn’t really interested in pictures of my son with food all his face or our vacation pictures. Who would have guessed! (I do look good in shorts though).

Did you notice the graphical improvement after I switched theme. I’m slowly learning to use Photoshop. I just love it, when I find a new feature and figure out how to use it.

Attend a convention. Man, I would love to go to a blogger convention. All a part of my big “become a problogger and move to the States”-plan.

Being the first Danish problogger that moved to the States. If that doesn’t earn me a spot as a convention speaker. Then what does?

Cool nickname. In real life my nickname is Don, but that doesn’t really catch on. I’ve tried with “dennisbp”. Right now I’m trying with my full name: Dennis Bjørn Petersen. Let’s see how many remembers it.

I’m experimenting with Qik.com. What a great service. I can stream directly from my cell phone. Besides that I’m trying Camtasia Studio out too. A few of my blog posts will now be recorded using Camtasia Studio. The first one was the prize draw as a part of The Beta News Contest.

I try to say smart things on twitter. I’m not as clever as Maki (DoshDosh). He has some really insightful and philosophical tweets.

I have no programming skills whatsoever. I do have a couple of great ideas. I just need someone to develop it for me.

Now I’ve revealed my most intimate and secret dreams for you. Which of these points do you follow? Or perhaps you are going your own way and starting your very own trend? What made these people so famous? They were usually first movers or early adopters, some might even call them visionary (not me of course).

UPDATE: I don’t usually ask for diggs, sphinns or stumbles, but as an experiment perhaps you would consider digging or sphinn this?
