April 25, 2008

Show Me Your Desktop Lisa Brewster
April 23, 2008
If you missed Larissa Meek’s interview last week, make sure you head over there and read it. This week it’s Lisa Brewster’s turn to show me her desktop.
Lisa Brewster aka. Adora calls herself “just some girl on the internet”, but if you ask me, she is on her way to being much more than that.
Lisa is taking part in Mahalo’s VLOGIdol. She is one of the finalists and could be the host on Mahalo Daily. If you want to support Lisa, which I’ll encourage you to do, join her Facebook Fan group, send her a SASE and get a free “I want Lisa to host Mahalo Daily” sticker and give her your support here.
It’s a tough competition with a lot of talented women with both beauty and “geeky”. Read more

The Beta News Featured On Premium Startup Blogs
April 23, 2008
I was pleasantly surprised to see The Beta News mentioned on MoMB, Museum of Modern Betas a few days ago. I’ve always been a big fan of MoMB and the work Saurier Duval puts into it.
If you are into twitter, you should check out MoMB’s top 100 popular twitter sites. Remember you can follow me on twitter. Read more

Who Do You Fring?
April 21, 2008
Applications for the Apple iPhone aren’t taking up the internet bandwidth and space. Actually only one company have developed an VoIP (Voice over IP) application, the Israeli company fring.
If you haven’t heard about fring, then perhaps you know one of the people behind it - Avi Schechter. He was one of the founder of the once very popular chat-program ICQ. I still remember my ICQ number 7914159, which was stolen by a hacker some time ago. Read more

Blogger Appreciation Day
April 14, 2008
Darren Rowse has just invented the Blogger Appreciation Day. Today it’s all about saying “Thank you” to your favourite blogger(s).
It could be a peptalk, a “Thank You”-mail or a few words of encouragement.
I would like to thank the following people in no particular order: Read more

Show Me Your Desktop Larissa Meek
April 9, 2008
It’s time for another round of Show Me Your Desktop. If you missed Amber Mac’s interview it’s still around.
This week it’s Larissa Meek’s turn to show us her desktop. Fans of the Miss Teen USA or Miss USA pageant know her, fans of the reality TV show “Average Joe: Hawaii” know her and fans of art and interactive design know Larissa.
Larissa is a senior art director at AgencyNet. If you’ve never visited AgencyNet.com, you really missed a great website. They really put the “i” in interactive and they are hiring, if you are interested. Read more

Linking By The Beta News

- Windows 7 milestone is ready next year. According to many rumours, some sort of release milestone of Windows 7 will be ready in a year. (I guessed that in January). Paul Thurrott has a screenshot gallery of Windows 7.
- Twingly, the spam-free blog search engine, launched it’s private beta last week. I’ve got my hands on 10 invitations and I can get a bunch more. Some are calling it the next Technorati. Let me know if you are interested.
- Dan from Minute44.com spent a great deal of time helping me correcting a few design issues on The Beta News. I really appreciate the help and I think you should stop by Minute44.com and check out Dan’s blog!

Guest Post On The Beta News
April 1, 2008
As some of you know (you will if you follow me on twitter), I’ve got a new job. This is my first week as team manager at Norriq.. I’m managing a team of consultants with expertise in Windows 2003, Symantec and Citrix products, Microsoft Exchange, firewall and various other infrastructure solutions.
Unfortunately I had to return my laptop to my former employer, so now I have to use my stationary PC, which is located in my office - away from the living room, wife, son, tv and so forth.
Hopefully I’ll get my hands on a MacBook Pro (somehow). I really want to try out one of those and see if they really are better than PCs.
The new job also means that I’ll be really tired when I get home, so I could really need a hand keeping me readers happy with quality posts.
So if you have something on your heart or would like to reach a larger audience, please send your guest post suggestion to me dbp (at) thebetanews.com.
Everybody is welcome as long as it’s within this blog’s topics.
