I Can Has Cheezburger - Off Topic Friday
September 28, 2007
Many of you know the site “I Can Has Cheezburger“. If you don’t you are missing one of the internet’s phenomenons. The site
posted the first picture January 11, 2007, but is already very well-known in the StumbleUpon-sphere, among cat lovers and “funny email senders”.It all started with the picture to the right, which apparently made the creators, Cheezburger and Tofuburger laugh for 73.5 minutes. The cat is called Happycat and is used by a Russian cat food company.
Tofu created this answer and several other quickly followed. These pictures are called “lolcats” or cat macros. They were invented several years ago on various forums, which every Caturday (Saturday) featured a new weird cat picture. “I Can Has Cheezburger” was the first site to tag and collect them.

Updating To Wordpress 2.3 My Experience
September 25, 2007
I just updated my blogs to Wordpress 2.3. I know that some of you will be cautious, but I tried with one of my lesser known (!) blogs first and it went very smoothly. No errors or major problems. I deactivated all my plugins and replaced all files on my server with the new Wordpress 2.3 files.
Then I ran the upgrade script and that was it. Of course my blog looked weird without the plugins activated. I activated the relevant plugins and downloaded the ones that needed an upgrade. It is a nice feature in Wordpress 2.3. It shows which plugins that needs to be upgraded. It would be great if I could just click and they would update, you still have to download, unzip and upload, unless…

Life’s Too Short For The Wrong Job
September 21, 2007
This week’s “Off-topic” topic is a series of pictures from a German ad-campaign for a job database. I don’t think the pictures need any explanation.

BlogRush - 5 Ways To Get The Most Of It
September 20, 2007
BlogRush. Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock for the last week, you probably already know what I’m talking about. I
will however spend a couple of words explaining what it’s all about and how to get it.
BlogRush is very similar to BlogBurst, except everyone can instantly get access to BlogRush and everybody has written about it. The whole concept of BlogRush is pretty simple, you place a widget on your blog showing articles from other blogs within your blog’s topic. You earn syndication credit each time the widget is loaded, used or by referring users. (*COUGH*Sign up here for BlogRush*COUGH*). Each credit represents a widget on another blog.
Now how can you get the most out of Blogrush?

Show Me Your Desktop, Jennifer Laycock
September 16, 2007
This week it’s Jennifer Laycock from Search Engine Guide, Bento Yum (Bento Boxes) and The Lactivist’s turn to Show Me Your Desktop. Jennifer
wrote the first e-book about blogging I read. The e-book is called Zero cash, A little talent and 30 days. She explains how she started The Lactivist from scrath using viral marketing, CafePress, ads, SEO and a lot more. I can highly recommend it.
She is also one of the skilled editors behind Search Engine Guide. She has certainly helped me understand how important viral marketing is for your blog or site.
If you can guess what Jennifer’s favourite program is, I’ll buy you a beer, root or lager, you pick.
If you missed last week’s interview with Paula Neal Mooney, don’t worry you can still make it.

Logo Designer Celebrates 1 Year Anniversary With $4,000 Prize Draw
September 12, 2007
My good blogging-friend, Show Me Your Desktop-participant, designer extra-ordinaire and star blogger, David Airey is celebrating his one year anniversary with a $4,000 prize draw.
David is an Irish logo designer living in exile in Edinburgh, Scotland. I reckon, he found out that Pure Pot Still whisky isn’t as good as Single Malt. I can’t blame him
The prizes are amazing. David has managed to get a lot of sponsored prizes. I have to admit the gold award prize is simply mouth-watering. If you are interested in participating in his $4,000 contest, you can find it on David’s blog.

Glenn Allsopp from ViperChill takes a look at the top 100 Digg users. His “analysis” shows some pretty interesting facts about the top 100 Digg users.
My co-author colleague at Connected Internet, Chris Kline, has written a very interesting post about 10 Google Pagerank myths. He has some really interesting point. I think we’ve all considered trying a few of them.

Off-Topic Friday: Survival Of The Fittest M&Ms
September 7, 2007
I’m a huge fan of the candy M&Ms…Mmmmmmm…*Drool*….The sweet sweet M&Ms, the ones with peanuts are my
favourites. If the ones with almonds existed in Denmark I would rank them second. The Malteser-version isn’t really me, they are too sweet.
My love for M&Ms isn’t what today’s post is about. No I “accidently” stumbled upon this great M&Ms related story.
Whenever I get a package of plain M&Ms, I make it my duty to
continue the strength and robustness of the candy as a
species. To this end, I hold M&M duels.Taking two candies between my thumb and forefinger, I apply
pressure, squeezing them together until one of them cracks and
splinters. That is the “loser,” and I eat the inferior one
immediately. The winner gets to go another round.
